INTRODUCTION PNS RAHAT, a 100 bedded hospital of the Pakistan Navy located in KARSAZ, Karachi has come a long way since its humble beginning as sick bay PNS KARSAZ in 1954. It was upgraded to Naval Medical Center PNS KARSAZ in 1973, and finally commissioned as PNS RAHAT hospital on 20th October 1994. Surge Cdr (Late) Rashid Ahmed Khan PN was appointed as first commanding officer. The hospital has continued to grow eversince in terms of infrastructure and level of patient care. It provides primary to secondary care outdoor as well as indoor treatment facilities to large dependant clientele. The hospital has a team of highly qualified, dedicated and committed physicians, surgeons, paramedical and nursing staff, providing the best of services to those engaged in the defense of their homeland. The roles assigned to PNS RAHAT are: a. To deal with emergency round the clock (24 hrs). b. To provide reception and treatment of the sick and wounded personnel of Pakistan armed forces and civilians paid out of defense budget. c. To provide medical cover and hospitalization facilities as indoor and outdoor patients to certain non entitled categories under special Governments sanction. d. To provide specialized outdoor/indoor to retired armed forces officers their families and retired armed forces personnel. e. To provide indoor/outdoor treatment to families of retied CPOs/Sailors. f. Physiology m. Dietitian HOSPITAL MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEM: Pakistan Navy has always sought to focus on improvement of quality of health care for its personnel and their families. Indigenous development of Hospital Management Information system (HMIS) for PN hospitals is cornerstone of this vision. HMIS project has been launched at PNS RAHAT w.e.f Jul 2011 as pilot project. Subsequently, it will be extended to other PN Hospitals and Health Care Centers linking them with a single data base.
